The
village of Crescent
Beach is located just south of the mouth
of the 'Nicomekl', where a bend in the
river estuary reveals a marina
that provides shelter for hundreds of boats. Next
door, the nature preserve of 'Blackie's Spit'
hosts dozens of species of resident and migratory
birds, which may be observed from natural blinds
atop the surrounding dyke's trails.
Amongst
all the communities in the lower mainland, Crescent
Beach has yielded the least of its classic
charm to the pressures of time. Crescent Beach
has maintained it's identity through a persistent
rejection of rezoning and modern development.
Appropriately
'Camp Alexandra', which has been summer
home to countless generations of children and
host to the village's festivals,
still sits squarely at the geographic heart of
the village.
A sense of peace permeates the shady
back lanes, and a walk along the ocean front path
passes history in the form of rustic log houses, beach front
cottages and heritage homes nested in mature trees.
'Beecher
Street' is the 'Marine Drive' of Crescent
Beach, with trendy bistros
featuring live entertainment,
deep wine cellars and ethnic flair.
Busy weekends will find residents and tourists dining at ocean view restaurants and enjoying the sunset during an evening stroll on the Crescent Beach promenade. |
